Governance and Organization
CORE Academy is governed and organized through a framework that brings together institutional leadership, academic oversight, administrative coordination, and research and international cooperation platforms. This structure is designed to support the Academy’s long-term development as a fellowship of merit, a community of scholarship, and an international platform for research, academic exchange, and institutional collaboration.
Institutional Governance
The Academy’s governance framework provides the institutional basis for its continuity, accountability, and long-term development. Under the Academy’s regulations and governing arrangements, the Executive Board, the Council, and the Academic Committee each contribute, in different ways, to institutional oversight, academic leadership, and the advancement of the Academy’s mission.
The President serves as the Academy’s senior elected leader and represents the Academy in its broader academic and institutional development. Where applicable within the Academy’s governance structure, the Chair of the Board helps oversee board-level governance and institutional continuity, while the Chair of the Academic Committee guides the Academy’s principal academic advisory and evaluative work. Together, these offices and bodies help safeguard the Academy’s standards, mission, and long-term interests.
Academic Oversight and Academic Structure
Academic affairs are guided through the Academy’s academic procedures and structures, including the Academic Committee and the Academic Divisions. Together, these provide an institutional framework for academic evaluation, fellowship development, disciplinary representation, and the advancement of the Academy’s scholarly work across the sciences and humanities.
The Academic Divisions organize the Academy’s fellowship and wider academic community across major fields of knowledge, helping to ensure both disciplinary depth and wider interdisciplinary exchange. Through this structure, CORE Academy seeks to uphold merit, seriousness, and intellectual distinction in the development of its academic life.
Secretariat and Administrative Coordination
The Secretariat serves as the Academy’s principal administrative and coordinating body, supporting the day-to-day operation of the Academy and assisting in the implementation of its institutional, academic, and international work. It helps connect the Academy’s governance, fellowship affairs, academic communication, research initiatives, partnerships, events, and public-facing activities, while supporting organizational continuity across different areas of the Academy’s development.
The Secretariat is led by the Secretary-General, together with the Executive Vice Secretary-General, who play central roles in institutional coordination, communication, and the practical advancement of the Academy’s ongoing work. In addition to supporting internal administration, the Secretariat also assists in linking the Academy’s leadership, academic structures, research platforms, and international partnerships in a coherent and effective manner.
Research and Institutional Platforms
Beyond its fellowship and governance structure, CORE Academy also develops and supports a range of institutional platforms through which its academic and research mission may be carried forward in practice. These may include research institutes, CORE Scientific Centers, joint institutes, laboratories, and other affiliated academic mechanisms established to support sustained scholarly cooperation, research development, and innovation-oriented collaboration. Among these broader platforms, the International Eurasia Laboratory (IEL) represents one of the Academy’s important recent international initiatives for cross-border academic cooperation and institutional development.
International Scope and Operational Presence
CORE Academy is incorporated and headquartered in Hong Kong and international in scope. In accordance with its institutional development and the practical needs of its work, the Academy may also operate through or in association with research centers, laboratories, representative offices, branches, affiliated entities, and other collaborative platforms in different jurisdictions, where appropriate. This wider organizational approach reflects the Academy’s effort to combine a clear institutional base with the flexibility needed to sustain international academic cooperation, research development, and scholarly exchange across regions.
An Integrated Institutional Framework
Taken together, the Academy’s governance bodies, academic structures, administrative coordination, and research platforms form an integrated institutional framework through which CORE Academy carries forward its mission. This framework is intended not only to support internal organization, but also to strengthen the conditions under which serious scholarship, international cooperation, and institution-building may continue to flourish.
