The Academic Divisions constitute the principal disciplinary framework of the International Core Academy of Sciences and Humanities. They reflect the Academy’s breadth across the natural sciences, engineering and applied sciences, mathematics and information sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities, and provide an intellectual basis for scholarly exchange, peer review, and the organization of Fellowship within the Academy. The Academy currently comprises five academic divisions.
Division of Natural Sciences
The Division of Natural Sciences encompasses the fundamental and empirical sciences concerned with the physical universe, the earth, the environment, and living systems. It includes, but is not limited to:
· Physics (theoretical and experimental; atomic, molecular, and optical physics; condensed matter; particle physics; astrophysics)
· Chemistry (organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, theoretical, and materials chemistry)
· Biological Sciences (molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, microbiology, developmental biology, neurobiology, zoology, botany)
· Earth Sciences (geology, geophysics, geochemistry, paleontology, oceanography, atmospheric sciences, climatology)
· Astronomy and Astrophysics
· Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
· Environmental Science and Sustainability
· Medical Sciences
· Biophysics and Chemical Biology
(This division embraces both foundational and interdisciplinary sciences concerned with the laws of nature, the structure of matter, the Earth system, and the complexity of living organisms.)
Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences
The Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences includes disciplines that apply scientific and technical knowledge to the design, construction, analysis, and improvement of systems, materials, devices, processes, and technologies for practical use. Fields in this division include:
· Mechanical Engineering
· Electrical and Electronic Engineering
· Civil and Structural Engineering
· Chemical Engineering and Materials Science
· Computer Engineering
· Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering
· Nuclear Engineering
· Robotics and Mechatronics
· Biomedical and Bioengineering
· Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering
· Environmental and Sustainability Engineering
· Engineering Physics and Applied Mechanics
· Energy Systems and Renewable Technologies
· Technological Sciences
(This division encompasses both established and emerging branches of engineering that advance innovation, infrastructure, sustainability, and technological application.)
Division of Mathematics and Information Sciences
The Division of Mathematics and Information Sciences comprises disciplines devoted to logical reasoning, abstract structure, quantitative analysis, computation, and the theory of information. It includes:
· Pure Mathematics (algebra, geometry, number theory, topology, analysis)
· Applied Mathematics (differential equations, dynamical systems, mathematical modeling)

· Algorithms and Data Structures
· Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
· Information Theory and Coding
· Cryptography and Security
· Quantum Computing and Information
· Data Science and Big Data Analytics
· Logic and Foundations of Mathematics
(This division provides a rigorous intellectual foundation for many areas of contemporary science, engineering, and digital scholarship.)
Division of Social Sciences
The Division of Social Sciences investigates individual and collective human behavior, social institutions, economic systems, and political structures. It includes a broad range of disciplines such as:
· Sociology (social theory, inequality, institutions, urban and rural studies)
· Political Science (political theory, comparative politics, international relations, public policy)
· Economic Science (microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, development economics, behavioral economics)
· Psychology (cognitive, social, developmental, clinical, and experimental psychology)
· Anthropology (cultural, social, biological, linguistic, and archaeological anthropology)
· Human Geography and Spatial Studies
· Education and Learning Sciences
· Demography and Population Studies
· Public Administration and Policy Studies
· Communication Studies and Media Sociology
· Science and Technology Studies (STS)
(This division is devoted to understanding the structures and dynamics of human society and to informing the institutions and policies that shape public life.)
Division of Humanities
The Division of Humanities engages with the intellectual, cultural, artistic, and historical expressions of human civilization. It includes a wide array of disciplines, such as:
· History (ancient, medieval, modern, global, regional, intellectual, cultural, social, economic, and political history)
· Philosophy (ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, logic, aesthetics, political philosophy)
· Languages and Linguistics (modern and classical languages, phonetics, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics)
· Comparative Literature and Literary Studies
· Religious Studies and Theology
· Law and Jurisprudence
· Classical Studies (Classics)
· Cultural Studies and Area Studies
· Art History and Visual Culture
· Performing Arts (musicology, theater, dance, performance studies)
· Digital Humanities and Media Studies
(This division promotes critical inquiry into the texts, ideas, traditions, and cultural forms through which human experience has been expressed and interpreted across time and place.)
The divisions are indicative rather than exhaustive. Interdisciplinary and emerging fields may, where appropriate, be considered across more than one division. In exceptional cases, candidates of outstanding distinction in public policy, public administration, academic leadership, science communication, journalism and public communication, education, institution-building, scientific, cultural, or nonprofit leadership, or the public advancement of knowledge may be considered within the most relevant division according to the nature of their contributions.
