Fields of Scholarship and Research Interests

Professor Paul R. Sanberg’s research sits at the intersection of neuroscience, brain repair, and clinical translation, with a sustained focus on developing therapies and evidence-based interventions for age-related neurological disorders. His work spans cellular and molecular neurobiology, outcomes and translational studies, and the design of pharmaceutical and cell-based therapeutics, targeting conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders, and Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia.

A signature contribution of his program has been advancing the scientific and translational foundations for umbilical cord blood–derived cell approaches in neurology, helping to establish their therapeutic potential and to move promising strategies toward clinical evaluation and real-world impact.
