Present and Previous Positions

Director, Institute of Geophysics, National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)

Fields of Scholarship and Research Interests

Volcanology; Volcano Monitoring; Volcanic Hazards; Natural Hazards; Glaciology; Volcano–Ice Interactions; Geochemistry; Quaternary Geology; Volcanism–Tectonics Relations.

Professor Delgado-Granados has worked extensively on volcanic stratigraphy, the relationship between volcanism and tectonics, volcanic gas geochemistry, and the evolution of glaciers on active volcanoes. His research has been especially important for understanding the age, eruptive history, and hazard implications of Popocatépetl and other Mexican volcanoes. He also studies glacier retreat on volcanoes and the hazards associated with glacier loss and eruptive activity. A central feature of his career is the close connection between scientific research and hazard mitigation. His work has contributed not only to volcanological knowledge, but also to monitoring practice, civil protection, and public preparedness in regions exposed to volcanic risk.
