Roin Metreveli (FCAcad) Appointed Member of the CORE Academy's Academic Committee

We are honored to announce that Professor Roin Metreveli, Academician and President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences and a distinguished historian and medievalist, has been appointed as a Member of the Academic Committee (Academic Council) of the CORE Academy. His appointment reflects a lifetime devoted to historical scholarship and academic leadership across Georgia and the wider Caucasus.

The Academic Committee (Academic Council) stands at the heart of the Academy’s governance—overseeing academic affairs, upholding scholarly standards, guiding fellowship nominations and elections, and shaping the strategic direction of research across the Academy and its affiliated institutes. Members are invited on the strength of their eminent records and the trust they inspire among peers to steward excellence and integrity.


About Roin Metreveli

Professor Metreveli currently serves as President of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences (since June 2023), following a decade as its Vice-President (2013–2023). He previously served as Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (1991–2004), where he helped steer the university through an era of renewal and reform; and he has long been an editor and organizer of major national scholarly projects, including Georgia’s encyclopedic and historical series. He is an academician of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and a Fellow of the CORE Academy (FCAcad) in the Division of Humanities.


Across six decades, his scholarship has illuminated the history of Georgia and the Caucasus, from source studies and historiography to diplomacy and social thought, with over 200 publications, including numerous monographs and textbooks widely used in higher and secondary education.
