The Academic Committee is a vital component of the Academy’s organizational structure, responsible for overseeing and advising on academic affairs and providing strategic guidance for the Academy’s future development. It plays a central role in upholding academic standards, nominating and electing fellowship candidates, and guiding the strategic direction of research across the Academy and its affiliated institutions. Experts with distinguished achievements and reputations in the related fields are invited to join as members of the Academic Committee.

Educated at Northwestern University (Ph.D., M.A.) with an undergraduate B.A. (Honors) from Lawrence University, Professor Fosu combines methodological rigor with policy relevance across development economics, political economy, and African economic transformation.

A prolific and widely cited scholar, Professor Fosu's work has illuminated how distributional change conditions the poverty-reducing power of growth, and how institutions, governance, and export diversification shape development outcomes. His article “Growth, Inequality, and Poverty Reduction in Developing Countries: Recent Global Evidence” (Research in Economics, 2017) received the Elsevier Atlas Award in 2018, recognizing research with significant social impact.
Across lectures, advisory roles, and research collaborations, Professor Fosu exemplifies the Academy's mission to translate evidence into action—informing strategies that reduce poverty, strengthen institutions, and foster inclusive, sustainable growth. His Academic Committee service will further the Academy’s cross-disciplinary initiatives and global partnerships.
